What is Mini Soccer?
The principles and rules of Mini-Soccer are similar to those in 11 aside Soccer, except that the pitches are smaller and there are fewer players on each team. Depending on the age group, number of players, size of pitch, and goal size the game can vary from 3v3 for the youngest to 8v8 for the oldest.
Benefits of Small- Sided Soccer
- More touches of the ball to increase participation and enjoyment
- Fewer players on the pitch meaning simpler decisions and better understanding
- Smaller fields meaning greater concentration and interest among participants
- More individual success leads to more children playing. In the long term, this leads to sustained participation levels beyond this age group
Keeping Mini-Soccer Simple
The game of Mini-Soccer provides the best environment for youth players to develop soccer skills and techniques. When coaching, officiating or parenting remember to keep the game simple. Over complicating things can loose the flow of the game in turn inhibiting a player’s development. Encourage the players to discover the love of the game through the game.
U10 Soccer
U10 is the first year that teams play outside of their club. Games are scheduled by South Distict Girls Soccer (sdgsa.com). There are 9 clubs that make up South District. There is traveling involved at this age. Games can be played on a Saturday or a Sunday.
Introduction to Soccer Program for U5 and U6 Players

This program gives the youngest players a chance to see what soccer is all about and try it for a shorter period of time to see if they enjoy the sport. The sessions are all run by professional coaches, but this is also a great opportunity for parents to assist as volunteers and begin learning or re-learning basic soccer skills plus what is involved in coaching young players. The main focus of the program is on player development, introduction to soccer, and having lots of fun.
